South Korea - Dog Meat
|
This is a very graphic display of how dogs as well as cats are bred for meat in South Korea. This was filmed by an American animal activist so please watch this at your own discretion. No hate propagandas please since different countries have their own culture and this does not represent the whole of South Korea as well. |

Just because chickens and other animals don’t express emotions the same way as cats and dogs, that doesn’t mean they don’t feel them. I’ve never eaten cat or dog meat, and I have no intention of doing so any time soon. However, to say that farming cats and dogs for food is “wrong” but farming chickens and pigs is somehow morally “superior”, that’s just hypocritical. An animal is an animal, and people can make pets out of just about anything. There are those who have pigs for pets and who love them just as much as anyone can love a dog or a cat. Who is anyone else to judge? Of course, there -are- certain practices associated with the consumption of dog meat in some parts of the world - some traditions state that the more horror and pain you can inflict on the animal, the better it will taste. So some places will skin & butcher animals alive. I don’t care what kind of animal one is doing that to, it’s disgusting. Though again, I’m sure there are similarly barbaric practices among some of those who eat chickens and cows, so I can’t fault asian people exclusively with such behavior.

MMM! tasty!!
I can’t condone eating of Dogs and cats but if it one country’s tastes then who are we to stop them, Hindu India must cringe whenever it thinks of our beef market, however there do seem to be lots of horrendously cruel methods used in the breeding marketing preparing and cooking of all the little doggies. that should stop NOW. AS for cats everyone eaten is not crapping on my lawn

Eating dogs meat is completely turned down and people can’t depend upon these poor animals unless or otherwise they are self centered. we can get the nutrients needed from the environment without getting it from animals.
I am very sure that God or Jesus or Allah, have’t directed in their discourse to kill poor animals for consumption because they are noble and spread mercy all over alike. So killing any animal for any purpose cannot be accepted in any way.

Not all koreans eat dogs people!!! I’ve never heard about eating cats either!!!!
I think chinese people eat cats but koreans don’t. I know it’s very sad but don’t you eat beef, pork, chicken, cows and other animals???? It’s the same way and if you think it’s mean you can be vegitarians.

I am a soldier stationed in south Korea. And i just ate “Kangogee” (Dog meat) for the first time. It was hard at first b/c every time i went to take a bit i thought of my dogs back home. But when i finally took the bite it was very good. I’m not saying i would ever eat it again b/c more then likely i wont. But i had to try it. As they say “When in Rome”.
But there are some thing you guys need to know. Not alot of Koreans eat Dog. In fact most of the time when you ask for it they will yell at you and send you off. I have been here in Korea for more then 5 Months and it has taken me up un tell today to find it. So its extremely uncommon. It is almost forgotten.
If you want to know what it is like i can tell you its much like Beef in texture and taste. Like roast beef. The taste is almost exactly that of chicken mixed with beef. It is a little greasily and rubbery. The meat is typically served in a soup that costs about $10. Like other Korean dishes, the soup is served with side dishes that include fresh vegetables and kimch. Served with leafs over laying it. It is commonly eaten with white rice although this time i was short the rice. If i had to dissect the taste i would say it is 3rd parts beef flavored and 1 part chicken. So you taste more of a beef flavor then anything else. It has a very strange smell. It smells very sweet and tangy.
Note- I am not FOR killing dogs! I would and could never imagine doing so. The dog was already dead when i got there. It was going to be eaten by some one if it wasn’t me. I just wanted to try it. I love dogs not as food but as mans best friend. Thanks - SGT Bell

First off, it’s nothing different than raising chickens or any other type of live stock. It’s not as if they go rounding up pets. These are dogs breed for consumption. I’m sure farmers get attached to their own animals but they still have to kill them. Just because it’s foreign to us as westerners doesn’t make it wrong.
Second, it is delicious and obviously there is a market for it in Korea. I’ve been and enjoyed it. Little chewy but otherwise quite good.

@ Brianca,
It is because you are only 14 years old that you do not understand foreign cultures. Who are you to say that you are right and another is wrong? Who are you do judge? There is even a country that is disgusted by people eating beef. To them, you are the disgusting one. You make them sick to their stomach. Once you grow older and wiser you will begin to understand that there isn’t just one type of culture out there and there are many many different kinds of people in this world. It is what makes this world interesting. If everything was the same, it’d be as if the world converted to communism.

A sentient being, is a sentient being, is a sentient being, whether it be a dog, cat, cow, chicken or pig. What I find most disturbing is the accepted practice of deliberate infliction of torture as a routine part of the slaughter. It makes me wonder how this practice will affects the spirits of all in that country, not just on how they treat their animals, but each other.

Killing any animal for food is fine when they are assured a comfortable life and a quick painless death. This killing of cats and dogs is NOT the same as us eating chicken or beef etc. As the animals we eat would have had a nice life (providing you buy free range chicken) i mean, here in Britain (i cannot speak for other countries as i dont know enough to) farmers take huge pride in the way they treat their animals, and if they were to hear someone comparing the eating of dogs and cats to the eating of poultry and cattle, they would be fuming. Trust me, i know a few!
Anyway i definitely do not, as a dog and cat lover myself, agree with or condone this sick practice of ‘the longer an animal suffers when dying the better tasting its meat will be!’ although, like everyone else, i am not blaming or critisizing the whole of korea or koreas culture, i think it is important for a country to have a culture distinguishing it from the others.
I think mor people should know about this and i will spread the word

I love dogs. But, not inside of my mouth! I can say that my friend is Korean and he explained that it is not a normal thing to eat dog meat where he is from! I ate sheep balls once, but I wouldn’t say that Americans eat sheep balls! It is defintely not my right to decide what another can eat or not eat! Except my family! Don’t eat my family or we might have a problem. Except my Aunt Kathy! You can eat her! In fact she is always going around telling people to! Asalam Alakum Haters!

Why no hate campaigns? This is not anybody’s “culture”, this is sick and sadistic abuse by subhumans. These lot are vermin and I hope America finds some reason to bomb the fuck out of Korea - South especially, as that’s where most of this perverse evil seems to go on. And lets face it - that’s the only way this atrocity would stop. These so called people don’t want to be educated by real humans, they want to continue torturing animals as if they have a right to.
God, please make these emotionless little insects posing as humans die a horrible death!

Some of you people seem to think that just because dogs are thought of in a certain way in the Western (”civilized”) world, you can try to impose it on other cultures. This is cultural imperialism – you are trying to assimilate others into your cultures when they have no wish of doing so. It was bad when the Europeans took over Africa, and it’s still bad today.
Your ideals are no more “moral” or “superior” to any other cultures – except, perhaps, in your mind. What is different about raising dogs to be eaten and breeding any other animal for consumption, i.e. pigs, cows, chicken? Nothing. Pigs are just as smart as dogs, so intelligence is not an excuse.
Yes, the treatment of dogs (torture, beatings) is a sin, and one that should be punishable. However, let us remember that livestock in the United States are not faring much better. Perhaps you should clean up your own act before suggesting others do it as well.
As to the commenter above me, obviously choice of culinary dishes is a legitimate excuse to bomb a country.

Also, I might add that you don’t see Hindus, trying to ban beef in other countries. Nor do they want to find some reason to bomb the fuck out of the US for eating beef.
