Dolphin Massacre In Japan

Every winter, thousands of dolphins are confined and brutally killed in small towns across Japan. Fishermen often injure a few captives by spear thrust or knife slash to retain the group since dolphins never abandon injured family members. Dolphin meat are later marketed and often mislabeled as whale meat. Very Graphical. |

Have you ever killed an animal before? I have killed all kinds, mamals, large and small, fish, large and small and reptiles, large and small. The writhing by the dolphins, though hard to watch could easily happen after the animal is dead. I once killed a large snake, by shooting it’s head completely off, and it was still moving an hour later. Nerves sometimes react violently when an animal is killed by muscle spasms. Deer will kick and/or go stiff from muscle spasms, minutes after they are dead.
Take head and don’t always take what you see for granted. It’s not always true or portrayed in complete truth.
Again, there is some suffering, and it should be kept to a minimum, but what’s portrayed here is overblown.

Have you ever been that close to death, and therefore you knew you were no longer feeling pain? No, you haven’t, and neither have I. Sometimes people give such explanations to validate the killing, so he or she does not fee quite so bad. It can not be proven whether those animals were feeling pain or not. Yes, the suffering should be kept to a minumum. But it wasn’t. Those dolphins where in misery from the second they were netted. The same goes for the animals people eat in this country. So, you think cows and the like enjoy being shocked and beated and humng upside down while getting their throats slit? absolutely not. If I wouldn’t do that to my dog, I sure wouldn’t eat any other animal that it happened to. Yes, thats right, I am a vegan. And the same scene does happen in America, only with cows chickens and pigs. Dolphin or not, its wrong all the way around. Its is nothing short of pure massive slaughter.

Hi. I’m sixteen and im a geography student. The video is appauling. I’m working with some journalists to try and make people aware and educate people in what really happens. This cannot go on.
It’s truely sickening, and I don’t believe that exuses can be made for such pathetic behaviour. Animal cruelty at its worst.
I’m a country girl, I own a horse, I love all sorts of animals. I have never ever seen a dolphin in real life, and when i watched the video, i actually cried.

It’s unbelievable that a ‘civilised’ nation can do something like that to such gentle creatures like dolphins. I’m horrified. It wasn’t bad enough that Japan still slaughters lots of (endangered) whales. The only organisation really doing something about it and confronting the Japanese fleet is Sea shepherd. This is only one video, this is the same in all the world with cows, chicken, pigs, ducks, etc. The dolfin is an other victim of the humans. The humans are a lot, we’re too much in the world and we need eat…¿It’s the product for the market too much? YES. ¿It’s necessary to kill so many? NO. Indeed we are too many on this planet and our eating habits is pareparing our end. The natural environment we used to live in is collapsing. We could stop this just by changing these wrong eating habits. For instance if people ate only fruits and nuts coming from the trees they would cause the creation of hundreds of millions of fruit trees which would make the world look better, create shelter for wildlife and clean the air we breath. This is that simple. I am a lacto vegetarian for more than 20 years and I had a friend who ate just fruits and nuts and he could run 100 meters in 14 seconds at his age of 90.
I realized that the main cause of deforestation is humans eating meat. In order to provide meet to the society we have to let animals graze. The excessive grazing is not letting herbs growing, when there is no herb growing the bush will not grow and when there is no bush the tree will not grow. In other words herbs will incubate bushes and bushes the trees. So after a deforastion by wood cutting or fire when the animals are grazing in that place the forest will never come back. I live in a place where because of excessive grazing of animals the only plants that survive are plants with hard needle like leaves which would hurt the animal if they are eaten.

Of course humans would not like to be killed like that or in any form. Dolphins are not human though and who are we to say that the Japanese cannot eat dolphin. Some people believe that humans rule over animals and they are intended to provide nourishment. If the dolphins are not going extinct and the Japanese are making sure of that, then we should not judge them for their culture or eating habits. Everything we eat has feelings plants and animals alike. What makes you so almighty and knowledgeable as to dictate what plants and animals are acceptable to be slaughtered and eaten by a culture we know little about?

If a species is not endangered than your only reason for objecting to the animal in question being used for food is your own cultural judgement on which animals are “above” being used for food.

Omg…Japan has no right to obliterate these helpless dolphins until they are ALL extinct. It’s horrifying to see how animals die. People need to kill in a minimum other than a maxium. I am more disgusted by the lack of grammatical skills used in these comments than I by the subject material covered in the video. Japan has used the sea to sustain human life for thousands of years. Who are you people to say that what they do is wrong? It is obvious to me that you are not only ignorant of other people’s cultures, but also repugnant of educating yourselves… which leads to baseless claims and biased opinions, neither of which can support a valid argument.
I love meat. If I were to visit one of these villages some day, I will most assuredly eat dolphin. I think I would be inclined to spite the lot of you, and see if they’d let me kill my own dolphin, hopefully with a spear. And I’d try my best to get video.

This is appalling behaviour and i can’t believe that it is allowed to go on, this is nothing like what happens in a modern slaughter house, when i cow is killed a steel bolt is rammed through its skull, it is hoisted up and has its throat cut while its heart is still beating, its suffering is limited to a few seconds at most, these dolphins are nothing short of tortured and don’t give me no shit about it writhing around due to “muscle spasms”..
I’m not a vegetarian and i have no problem with killing ANY animal for food, i wouldn’t personally eat horse or dolphin but i accept that other cultures do, what is absolutely unacceptable is to drag any animal along the floor and allow it to bleed to death…
Looking at the other side of this argument you have to realise that fish albeit much smaller are dragged from the sea in there thousands and left to suffocate to death, this is just as horrible, and no one says a thing, I think we can all agree this is video is disturbing but as has already been pointed out is just one of the horrible massacre’s that happen everyday worldwide …

Humans were at their nutritional prime during their early history as hunter-gatherer’s, when meat made up around 50% of their diet. When agriculture developed in neolithic times, human health began a steady decline due to the higher influx of plant consumption accompanied by a decline in meat consumption. Our prime is long gone.

But I would also like to say: I think that killing animals for food in itself isn’t a bad thing, as long as it’s painless. It’s natural for animals to kill and eat each other, so let’s not start judging each other on WHAT we eat. What’s bad about the video is that the dolphins were dragged around, and cut open slowly while they were still alive. If they’d shot them in the head at the beginning to give them a quick death, it would have been a different thing, but what’s shown here is just cruel.
Stop calling people murderers who have killed animals before, (especially if you’re not even vegetarians), like this guy TM here. I doubt he killed the animals he mentioned out of pure cruelty. He probably had a reason, food or self-defense etc. A person who’s killed animals (painlessly) and doesn’t mind doing so isn’t any worse than someone who doesn’t mind eating meat. It’s wrong and unfair to think such people are more cruel than others or anything.
I, for example, am not a vegetarian (though I admire those who are). If I can I’ll make sure my meat comes from places where the animals are treated well, but I don’t think I have to stop eating meat altogether to show my respect to the animals. And if necessity ever demanded it, say I was stranded on an island, then I WOULD kill animals myself to survive, and I wouldn’t think it immoral, because it’s in my nature as a meat eater, and the fact that I eat meat wouldn’t be anything new, the only difference is just that I’d now be doing the work myself.
I hope you understand what I mean.

I believe it is the suffering and the method of killing that is the problem. We sometimes have to kill animals to eat … burgers …fish… any meat. Call me a hypocrite; call me a racist; but at least I respect and admire the wonders of nature. Sheep, cows, pigs and chicken were developed the same way as vegetables and grain in order to feed the human race. The process is monitored by independent sources to ensure no cruelty to the animals take place and that the entire business is run according to strict international rules and regulations. The same can not be said for the chaos that takes place and the inhumane way in which these wonderful creatures are slaughtered. The same goes for the endangered whale population. Killing these wild animals for financial gain should be punishable by death!
They are not bread in captivity for the purpose of feeding the human race like all the other animals we eat.
Fish on the other hand is a different story all together. You all know the difference between fish (tuna, hake and sardines) and mammals (dolphins and whales) right?

I’m 40. Almost all my life, I’ve heard this or that protest against teh killing of whales, sheep, dolphins, what have you. This won’t stop, what’s one man’s meat is another man’s poison: hell they even eat babies in Chine! So what’s the big deal of a bunch of dolphins, or whales, or whatever that’s being electricuted, slashed, or even screwed (some people do that). There’s gonna be sick or not sick, cruel, or kind, meatatarians or vegetarians, or whatever, as thiese are all relative. The name calling should stop, what is needed is to make whatever repulses you illegal, and then, the trick is in enforcing it thereafter. Do you think yuou’re up to the task? I don’t think so.
So, what to do? Get a life, spread love closest to home, and fuck care the rest of the world….. Sceptical, but practical, and further still, achievable

BUT- it should be in your consideration to realize that this is not something that happens in just japan. Here in America the SAME EXACT THING happens to many animals we eat. Whether it be deer, cows, chickens buffalo, fish etc.. in other some countries they beat BABY SEALS over the head with clubs just for fun.
Japan is a safer and friendlier country than america. People are very courteous of nature and animals, but not everyone is perfect, and I also believe the way animals are treated in ALL countries is wrong. Think of what someone from another country would think if they saw videos of OUR animals being slaughtered?!

Regardless of how safe and friendly Japan is, this is apalling. These are wild animals taken from their homes, stressed, dragged throught the streets, sliced and left to a long and painful death. Do I agree with everything that the west does when it comes to farm-raised animals, no. But we’re talking about an animal that has beed bred for centuries specifically chosen for yeilding a large amount of meat and milk that has been fed, housed and cared for since the day it was born not entire popluations of wild animals that the fisherman have had nothing to do with except confusing and slaughtering them. I am not a vegatarian, human beings have both molars and canine teeth and are therefore omnivores, eating both meat and vegetables. But I stick to farm-raised animals only. The purpose of a farm-raised animal is to be food. In many cases they are so far removed from their ancestors that they don’t even resemble them anymoreJapan is a country that is so overcrowded that it has no space to farm its own food so it rapes nature to get it. It is a country that still goes on whale hunts claiming it is for scientific research but is simply for the meat. I don’t care how safe or friendly a country is, this is wrong and if it is not stopped along with similiar atrocities enacted on the natural world the planet is going to be devoid of life. What’s the point of protecing your heritage then. This isn’t just Japan, its everywhere. Deer and gator hunts happen in the US. Negative interactions occur with humans like car accidnets or attacks and then everyone is up in arms. It wouldnt be a problem if habitat wasn’t constantly taking away natural habitat. Human kind all over the world needs to realize the consequences of their actions. This isn’t just about dolphins, it’s about every living thing.
“Tolun”-If we only ate fruit and nuts then all the food-producing plants would be gone, too. What will you do then?
“Echo”-Get off your pedestal. You don’t belong on one.
“Kamikaze”-This has nothing to do with US/Japan relations, this has to do with humanity and morality. It is everyone’s business when an unnecessary slaughter like this happens.
“Fritz”-Get a little education yourself. You’re talking about a group of people that need to use grounded up seahorses to become aroused. Almost as pathetic as you feeling like a big man spearing helpless animals and documenting it
“Prodigy”-consider a name change. A prodigy would realize that the real problem is not in eating a dolphin but in slitting it’s throat and leaving it to die on a dirty street while children walk by. “Peter Wolf”-Prattle? This effects everyone on the planet. If a keystone species in an ecosystem is lost forever it throws off the entire balance of that ecosystem. No dolphins means more fish. More fish means more algae eaten off rocks. Less algae means less oxygen. No oxygen means a dead ocean. Not just prattle, is it?

I’m disappointed in alot of people that have posted on this topic, because close to every one has failed to understand the purpose of this video. Everyone, stop arguing amongst yourselves about each other’s opinions on whether dolphins should be killed or not, you shouldn’t compare them to cows, pigs, and other frequently eaten animals, because this isn’t about them, this is about the cruelty of the slaughter of dolphins. I disagree with Echo’s idea that us humans are only upset about dolphins being killed because they are “cute”, the reason we are upset is because we’ve been able to actually see the cruel killing through this video, I doubt many of us have seen videos showing such massacres of cows and other animals, and I think that many of us trust that other animals are killed more humanely, since we haven’t seen other proof that show us otherwise. The purpose of this video isn’t for us to insult each other about our thoughts, but for poeple to share their ideas on what should be done, and express our thoughts freely. I’m glad there are groups and petitions that are targeted to help stop this problem, I thank Ronny Van Ackere and Kimberly for their helpful links. I admire them, wake up ppl!!!!!, and some others as well for understanding this topic. The problem here is not only the way that these dolphins are killed, and the possibly unnecessary quantity of these dolphins we kill, but that also, we humans are arguing about this with eachother when the real problems should be obvious. We shouldn’t work against each other but with each other. I’m only 4 years older than wake up ppl!!!!!, right, I’m only 14 years old, and even I’ve been able to understand the meaning of this video, so the least you could all do is to understand it too instead of fighting each other about it.

Chicken, beef and pork are all grown for human consumption,just like corn. Netting/trapping and slaughtering what seems to be the most intelligent animal on the earth is sickening. This is a terrible event to say the least. Dolphins are known to be the most advanced species in all marine organisms. They may not be the same as humans but they have nearly the same brain size and complexity of a human which is larger than the primates that that some people believe to be the smartest animal under humanity. Primates came from the same ancestors but dolphins are at the very least as intelligent as them. Doplhins have been proven to use tools, language, and have some morals and they are very social creatures. This bring into conflict the massacre of a species that is aware of its own existence. It isn’t human but it knows just as us that it is alive and killing it is ultimately equivalent to killing a human aware of its existence. This creature should be protect from slaughtering not because its cute or worshipped but because it is an evolving intelligent creature that most likely someday will be the dominant species of the ocean as humans are to the land.

What I am trying to convey is that it is unwise to say the entire country is evil because a few fisherman are keen to cruelly torture dolphins. “kanashii desu.” If you feel more secure in labeling one side evil and one side good, why not say the “dolphin fishermen” vs. “animal rights activists” instead of “Japanese” vs “The World?” Do we call Americans polluting bastards for not following the Kyoto Protocol? I think not.
I hope that people will decide to make intelligent comments about this topic instead of ranting that Japanese are rabid beasts by nature.

As a kid, I went through a serious dolphin obsession. Statues of the creatures decorated my room, and swimming with ‘Flipper’ was a dream come true. Watching this video, I’m living a nightmare. I’m commenting to say that animals such as cows, deer, and pigs are meant to feed the human population more than other animals, just as plants are meant to feed them. I do not eat pork, but I do eat fish and other sources of protein for athletics. This cruelty against the dolphins is absolutely disqusting, horrifying, and unacceptable. Anyone who thinks this is okay obviously has absolutely no sense of moral values whatsoever, and I have lost all respect for them. Dolphins seem to be the most intelligent and kindest creatures on the face of the earth, and they obviously have twenty times more of sensitivy than you morons who think this is okay (Echo, that one’s for you), as they never leave behind an injured family member. I have also read news reports of dolphins saving humans from shark attacks, what if you were that person? I do understand that a little killing of dolphins is acceptable. But this long, painful and tortourous death that they establish at the numbers they kill? Disqusting. Have you not seen the pictures of the ocean waters literally stained completely red from the blood? TM, you’re an ignorant idiot. Never speak again. People like wake up world, you have gained my respect infinitely. I completely agree with everything, very well said.

First and foremost, there is no animal that is killed humanely..it is all disgusting. I dont agree with how they kill cows, pigs, chickens, etc. THIS is disgusting and completely unnecessary..who the fuck does this? sick fucks thats who…otherwise known as the japanese, who have no reguard for animal or human life. they’re cocky, racist, ignorant fucks..i hope they die the same death. Any torturous killing is immoral and disgusting, so people should stop saying we only care about the dolphins because they’re ‘cute’. It’s not the case. Cows, pigs, sheep, chickens…. in most places they are also killed in an extremely painful way, and it shouldn’t be tolerated no matter what animals are the victims.
If animals are killed in a humane way, and lived a healthy life (free range chickens etc.) then it is acceptable in my opinion, because eating meat is natural for humans.
However, causing unnecessary pain in any animal is horrible.
So stop making excuses for the deaths of these dolphins, there is no excuse for how these were killed.

I would hope this blog continues. This is such an important thing for people to think about. There are two issues. Killing and how killing occurs. All animal killing, whatever form it takes is horrific when you actually see it happen. In most societies it is sanitised and people do not see it. If you closely at these commercial killing industries you will always see the horrors and the dirty side of the industry. If you want the Japanese to stop this then you should stop eating meat of any kind. I do think the killing of wild animals is particularly barbaric because it destroys whole families or leaves the young without parents.
