Back in highschool I used to WOW and devoted a huge amount of time into that game. I stopped playing the game about a year ago do to bordom but definitely remember the addictiveness of the game. For many people, although the game takes up much of thier time, wow is not a problem and they live a pretty productive life. (haha i even know some tatted up gang bangers in Brookyn, Pa who play...its kinda funny) However, this kid is on a differet level. People that devote that much time to Wow need to get help or have some sort of family intervent (by the way those parent are dumb sh*ts pull the freaken cord). Funny thing once you have reached the highest lvl cap, kick some serious pvp and battleground but, and get all the sickest gear the game becomes increasingly boring and all you have to show for it is a shit load of wasted life and some 10101110 code that you spend $15 a month to keep stored. People addicted to this game should put down the damn key board (Not throw when thier getting camped by a lvl?? hunter) and level up thier real f**king lives. Go outside for godsake. Read a book, play a sport, or get f**king laid. If your going to be addicted be addicted to getting some "strange". ive said my part.
by the way wows a sick game when played in moderation!

Old article, same principle. Kids that age are too young to be wasting so much time on a computer. If you're still in high school, get the hell of the computer and go spend some of your parents money. Join football, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, a debate team, a math/spelling/programming team. Play sports, get a tan year-round. Did I mention spend your parents money? You're in high school.

I'm in college. I can't play a lot, but I do play because it's cheap entertainment. I still go outside and play, I'm tan, I keep up with my studies, and when I am finished, rather than go spend money (I see 1 movie a month with friends, and go out to eat (~$12) once a month. During the weekends I workout, shop, and do whatever. Evenings, I raid with friends. WoW won't last forever and it most certainly will start getting boring soon. They're also going to run out of content in about 2-3 years. WoW will have a lifespan about as long as the average television show. That, and after I graduate (1 year), I will probably sell my account for some nice cash.

If you're looking for cheap and fun entertainment, WoW is a good choice. Unless you're getting paid to play or WINNING competetive arena competitions, I would not play more than the time an evening raid allows...three to four hours. 3 nights is a fine limit.

I just had a four week vacation -- you are not addicted if you can drop the game at any moment and send a 'be back in a few weeks' message to all your friends. It's all about managing your time, and realizing it really IS a game, and it's not meant to last forever. Also, realizing life is so much better than WoW is a good thing to remember.

On another note -- the reason people like the game so much is they can do 112312412 things they can't do in real life, and look like a Vogue model while doing them. Every time you log in, your sequence of events is different.

The difference between this and other addictions is that this one is a dangerous addiction. You get red eyes, bad posture, you get angry, mood swings, depression, it breaks up relationships. You learn NOTHING from wow, it's a time sink.

With going out to see a movie, it's only 8 bucks where i'm from. You have to get a shower, get dressed, call up a friend, meet with them, drive to the movie, find a seat, sit down, get up, then usually you get somethign to eat, hang out etc. You get more exercise, social skills, coordination then sitting playing wow.

Things like tv are different, you never learn ANYTHING from wow. Anyone can do it.

With tv you can learn how to cook, fish, and do first aid in real life. You learn about social trends, new music, how to play instruments. TV is a great educational tool. With wow, if you get up and leave in the middle of a raid you'll get yelled at and told off.

Wow also has things that if you did them in real life you would be put in a mental institution. Spending 20 hours killing 2000+ elementals for primals over and over and over again is normal? No it's a sign something is terribley wrong. Hmm lets go with the tv example, would you put on a 30 min show and watch that same exact show over and over again for 20 hours?

With things like seeing your fav sports team, at least your in fresh air, with other people, your not anti social locked up in a room with red eyes. The sporting event ends shortly and you learn skills like talking to people, watching heros who are in good shape, people who watch sports are generally into it as well so they get to pick up some tips on how to play. It makes you live longer so it's great. You also get exercise walking to the seats of the game.

Hi all, I'm 17 and do spend more time than most on a PC but, again, it's doing constructive work such as photoshopping, researching, composing music, etc. I've been against the cancer (yes, CANCER) known as WoW from the beginning because ever since Everquest people have had the propensity to become addicted to these games to the point that it becomes their life. Games are meant to be a diversion from the pressures of life, not to become life themselves. This kid needs professional help, he's only reinforcing the stereotype that all games are evil things designed by Satan to suck out your soul and giving Jack Thompson more skewed, out-of-context ammunition to use in his 'crusade' against video games.

side note: Not all evangelical Christians (or conservatives for that matter) are as biased and condemning as Jack Thompson is...he makes us look bad.

I have been playing World of Warcraft for nearly 5 months now and i have a level 70 warlock, a level 70 Rouge and a level 65 Shadow Priest with all my epics, and yes it is quite a time consuming game due to the games certain features such as raids where a large group of players get together and clear a dungeon or area which can take some time maybe up to 3-4 hours max. But after hearing about this boys addiction to the game i was completely shocked at his actions but mostly shocked at the amount of time his parents had let this sick illness continue. All they had to do is either cut off his payments from his wow account or take away the computer and internet connection from him its that simple. I have myself had some bad experiences with my parents concerning wow due to the fact that i played too much than i was suppose dto but then it stuck me that i was acting like a idiot and had to change the number of hours i was playing to atleast 1-2 hours a day. you see thats the problem with some people who play wow they thing they have to play it for a ridiculously large period of time to get all the best equipment and armour ect... but what they dont realise is that if they take everything thing in popotion, they will be able to achive their targets in the game. And to those people who play wow and disagree with me i can tell you this, you my think that your doing well getting all your epics and slowing clearing all the new dungeons these new patches are providing but remember one thing, carry on like this and your all going to be stupid losers in the future with no plan, no family and no life, simple as. And to booker which i quote "and you people take this to far … mainly because your retarded.. but 16 hours a day is nothing lolzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz " we are the retarded ones who dont sit on our asses for 16 hours a day playing a stupid game ? well my friend id rather be "retarded" instead of spending 16 hours a day in front of a computer were i can only play 1-2 hours a day get a decent amount of quests and dungeons done and still have time to F**k my girlfriend which you probably wouldnt know about because youv probably never been laid in your life.

Thanks for listening
