alkali metal

We all have tried reacting alkali metals such as potassium and sodium with water in our science labs but what happens when the top alkali metals such as rubidium and cesium is used?

Pity Francium doesn’t last enough for such a demo since it is radioactive and decays too quickly.

Sorry to spoil the fun, but that video’s fake . . . they just put a bomb in the bathtub. Go to http://www.theodoregray.com/PeriodicTable/AlkaliBangs/index.html for details and to see the real reaction.

this was an excellent experiment and it has helped me understand the reaction of the elements it was also good because i like watching explosions

The British show Brainiac did an episode where they claimed to be dropping Cs and Rb into a bathtub full of water, but actually faked it with explosive charges.

This site is the real deal:www.theodoregray.com/PeriodicTable/AlkaliBangs/index.html

lol we had to watch that video in chemistry and now we have to do an essay on francium but at least now i know what happens in the reaction i dont think ill forget x

I would like sources for verifiable information about the faked explosions for cesium and rubidium.

Why is francium a element when it react with itself ? It just can’t be a group 1 element.

Have got 2 do a science project on alkali metals reactions with water :(
They defo put a bomb in the bath cos it Rb and Cs do make big reactions, but not that big!
